Chanakya’s chant by Ashwin Sanghi

Two story lines going in parallel - One story is based on Chanakya’s cruel and cunning political strategies. It revolves around Chanakya’s vengeance for his beloved father, his patriotic vision for akhand Bharat with the help of his trusted protégé Chandragupta Maurya. While flipping through each page, I wondered how come one can have so much of patience and determination throughout his life which continued till the incarnation of greatest king of that time. I was fascinated and thrilled with few of the quotes by Oscar Wilde, Benjamin Franklin and some other legends.

The story does not stop your ecstasy with only this story line. After 2300 years, another modern era Chanakya – a history teacher, Pandit Gangasagar Mishra from a small village in Uttar Pradesh grabs you with his freezing strategies and tactics for half of the book going in parallel with Chanakya’s war of politics. This history teacher inspired from Chanakya Niti, has only one aim in life – to take his pupil Chandini Gupta to the pinnacle of power in Indian Politics. He succeeds in his vision by some immoral and corrupt means but ends up in teaching that all is good if the end is for the betterment of a larger group.

I was always fascinated by biggest Kingmaker of all time ‘Chanakya’ and his ruthless political strategies. It all started when I found a small clip on a TV serial based on Chankyaniti. I watched all the episodes and found that I missed few pieces in the entire storyline. My hunt to all those questions attracted me to buy a copy of Chanakya’s chant. While purchasing this book, I was a little anxious and curious thinking will it catch up to my expectations? Will it be worth buying after watching Chanakya’s all episodes? And believe me, this book will give you an unstoppable experience, pulls you closer from the very first page and throws you in the middle of an ocean over the crests and troughs of curiosity and excitement every now and then spread across two eras – one from 340 BC and other one from present. Though both the stories are different, they are wisely plotted hand in hand. I kept the book aside after its last pages with ‘Power of renunciation’, ‘Adi Shakti namo namah’; only words swirling in my mind.

Loved it! Ashwin Sanghi, what’s your next?
