Warehouse Express Orders (WEX), Special Order Sales (SOS), SOS Express orders (SOSE)

Retail industry works differently in accordance with type of product for sale, segmented market and its reach over the country/ region. These retail outlets operate with the support of a strong distribution channel. A standard retail organization has a supporting warehouse backed up by a strong connectivity with suppliers/ vendors and stores. All the products from all of the suppliers/ vendors may not be available at the stores all the time. But the regular stock items should be well replenished at the store locations just to avoid stock outs and loosing the customers. There are few items which are sold at the stores but may not be available all the time in stores. Sometimes few of the items are not stocked in the stores due to its high value/ less demand/ complexity in maintaining its distribution at the store locations. The customer may order these items looking at the brochure, catalogue, e-catalogue or any other selling tool. Depending upon the fulfillment of these items, they ar

Physical Inventory Vs Cycle counts

Physical inventory is an activity in the DCs/ warehouse locations which is carried out once/ twice in a year. This actually carried for one basic and important reason of inventory control is ‘to keep the count correct and reflect it correctly in the system’. Whenever this physical inventory is going to be carried out in the facility, the facility is supposed to have completed all the putaways/ picks/ replenishment/ moves/ deliveries/ loadings before the last shift of the facility. When the physical inventory process starts, all the access levels of users will be withdrawn from their use of applications which leads to integrity of inventory. During this, the system tries to find what are the pending activities to the locations, finds the Data Base integrity (two items at one location, qtys mismatch), accordingly the systems generates checks for those locations. A user goes to the location verifies the qtys, this leads to another check for the location for the confirmation. But this time

Udaan...! The world of FREEDOM

Chhoti-chhoti chhitrayi yaadein Bichhi hui hain lamhon ki lawn par. Nange pair unpar chalte-chalte Itni door chale aaye Ki ab bhool gaye hain – Joote kahan utaare the. Aedi komal thi, jab aaye the. Thodi si naazuk hai abhi bhi. Aur nazuk hi rahegi In khatti-meethi yaadon ki shararat Jab tak inhe gudgudati rahe. Sach, bhool gaye hain Ki joote kahan utaare the. Par lagta hai, Ab unki zaroorat nahin." Words from Udaan. Few poems in this movie are very nice. The movie takes us through a very nice mode till the end but throws us rebooted. The end would have been a little modified. Well directed and acted. Songs are new with an old artistic touch. The best part of the movie is that when the young actor comes out of jail and runs on the road running his father way behind, for the first time. The feel of FREEDOM was carved awesome. Beautiful! Advanced Shipment Notice Vs Distribution Shipment Notice

Whenever i used to read about ASN/ DSN (Advanced Shipment Notice/ Distribution Shipment Notice) in my college days, i used to get confused. ASN helps the lead organization to decrease the cost of the movement of goods. It plays a very important role in supply chain management. Advanced Shipment Notice is an advance notification sent by the vendor before the actual physical shipment of goods. This notice is sent via EDI (electronic data interchange), EDIFACT to the lead organization. The vendors send this information to the distribution center of the lead organization this information reaches to the distribution centers/ warehouse way before the physical reception of goods. This notice includes the information related to purchase orders, probable arrival date, items, their quantities, and label related information. This information is used by the distribution center planners to plan the warehouse related activities such as receiving, cross-docking, put away, labor management etc. The

Transportation - Decision to go out on outsourcing

Image
Irrespective of the transportation management (who’s who?), cost of transportation is always paid by the Lead Organization to the carrier. Organization may follow, 1PL and 2PL logistics (Transportation ONLY-insource and outsource). It is said that - Inbound and Outbound load management including transportation is one half or two third of price of the product. So majorly improving SCM, ends up in shortening cost incurred for transportation. Controlling entire inbound freight management may not be effective for all retail organizations. This may vary from organizations inbound volume and value of the load carried each time they receive an inbound freight. Its like a bell curve. I think, for an organization managing in house transportation, cost of the freight is directly proportional to the volume of the freight up to a certain 'breakeven point'. Beyond this point, cost decreases if volume goes on increasing. Hence till this point its better to compensate this cost by negotiat

Walmart's Inbound Freight Management

WalMart’s recent announcement that it plans to take control of virtually all of its inbound freight has brought the subject of inbound transportation management to the top of the supply chain discussion list. While many retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers have taken control of their inbound freight at some level, even more companies are leaving significant dollars and supply chain opportunity on the floor by letting suppliers make most or all of the transportation decisions. Even companies that have taken some control of inbound freight often have many additional opportunities to improve not only transportation costs but also supply chain visibility, the flow of inventory, supply chain decision-making and other areas by taking inbound freight management to more advanced levels. In this outstanding videocast, we’ll take you through the keys to inbound management success, whether you are just considering the idea, starting to move forward on a program, or would like to take y
