FACTORs AFFECTING CROSSDOCKING

Image
Even if Cross-Docking was used popularly in the trucking industry in 20s and later in military operations, Wal-Mart started using it in 80s and made it popular in retailing. Cross-dock is essentially a process in a warehouse/ facility. In this process, movement of products/ goods from receiving door to shipping door happens without/ minimal handling of materials and with no storage. Among many of the other reasons - saving cost in storage and delivery, faster time to market, reduced space requirement, time effectiveness in fulfilling JIT manufacturing, and improved economies of scale for retailers and transportation, are the main reasons because of which organizations are inclined to extend their supply chain capabilities to adopt this process. However, retail organizations may have to consider many of the other aspects before adopting cross docking. Let us consider few of the important factors which may individually or in combination with other factors influence the decision

BEING AN INFO(SYS)CION

Image
Before two weeks, when I used to scan the newspaper in the morning, I used to see news about Infosys at least once a quarter. This situation is suddenly changed. Now I see news covering Infosys almost everyday. The agenda was not quite old but derogatory and sparked with Vishal Sikka's resignation and his decision to part ways with Infosys. That morning, I bet every Infoscion must have had at least one discussion about this, if not at least one message shared on social media. News channels flooded with the news all over and people from my circles started asking about the recent happenings. One of my relative watching the news, asked me, is this such a big news? It made me think, what to answer. Yes indeed, it is a big news when companies like Infosys which has created an immense value, name and fame in the IT industry, has to face something like this. I saw couple of news articles blaming founders for intervening too much. I also read about some of the articles blaming

What a match!

Image
What a match! It was IPL #5’ 49th match on Wankhede with Sachin on ground made me write this time. The kick start of Murali Vijay and his every knock flattening every bowler gave an initial edge to Chennai team.   I bite my tongue when Murali hit Munaf for 24 runs a over with 3 smashing sixes round the ground and a four. Bravo and Raina put no doubts with the intentions their team entered on Wankhede. Their partnership proved remarkable to put a target of 173 with an extra edge given by Dhoni's quick rally of 25 off 15.   Chasing massive RR of 9 per over, Franklin's dismissal much earlier of the game was proved to be a good draw which got Rohit Sharma in. All went well till a brilliant century partnership stand for Sachin and Rohit. Sachin's fifty with boundaries and sixes were a treat to eyes. Rohit too proved a good mentee for Sachin with a mature discussion on the pitch amongst boundaries and sixes around by both the Mumbai Indians. All looked goo

Chanakya’s chant by Ashwin Sanghi

Image
Two story lines going in parallel - One story is based on Chanakya’s cruel and cunning political strategies. It revolves around Chanakya’s vengeance for his beloved father, his patriotic vision for akhand Bharat with the help of his trusted protégé Chandragupta Maurya. While flipping through each page, I wondered how come one can have so much of patience and determination throughout his life which continued till the incarnation of greatest king of that time. I was fascinated and thrilled with few of the quotes by Oscar Wilde, Benjamin Franklin and some other legends. The story does not stop your ecstasy with only this story line. After 2300 years, another modern era Chanakya – a history teacher, Pandit Gangasagar Mishra from a small village in Uttar Pradesh grabs you with his freezing strategies and tactics for half of the book going in parallel with Chanakya’s war of politics. This history teacher inspired from Chanakya Niti, has only one aim in life – to take his pupil Chandini Gup

Was really a revolution?

Just completed Chetan Bhagat’s Revolution 2020. “At last completed!” These were the words popped out of my mind when I put the book rather a movie script down after picking up that from nearby Crossword 4 months back. The story in Varanasi, roamed around three friends among which Gopal’s character was center of the stage who falls in love with Aarti in early teen age. Aarti being not ready for Gopal’s love, for that reason, not ready for LOVE, I would say, refuses to his proposal. Raghav who is Gopal’s childhood friend, has a promising career ahead being the IIT-JEE scorer and brightest in the town. Gopal being the failure one time in IIT-JEE, goes to Kota, Rajasthan (holy Kashi of wisdom for IIT-JEE aspirants) keeping his father’s last savings, borrowed loans at the stake, ends nowhere but at his father’s death ceremony on returning back to Varanasi. During this journey back to Varanasi, Gopal had already lost his only love of life in agony to Raghav as Aarti falls in love with Ragha

A day in the history of Cricket

In the midst of soaring Gold... In the midst of diving sensex... In the midst of Indian politics with a blend of Adarsh, telecom 2G scams at each corner... Here comes April 2, 2011, the day no Indian could ever forget!!! When the last world cup was lifted, I was 3 months old, still wrapped in my nappies, crying for milk, didn't know about what the heck is this world cup so special for? Even I am sure about MS Dhoni on that day when he must be 2 years old and may not be in the different mindset of what I was in? In both ours and in the lives of 1.21 Bn people's life, here comes a day, 2nd Arpil, 2011 An outstanding performance by Zaheer Khan, Gauti, Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh when roared by a "magnificent strike in the crowd" (Typical Ravi Shastri) when Dhoni hit a winning six in style, the entire nation's ecstacy went up in the sky touching a new height. The day was really different in every sense. Its a rare occassion in the history of cricket - When Mumbai l

In love with Sachin

Image
To all Cricket lovers, Yesterday, along with each Indian, crowd in the chidambaram stadium must have been roaring like a national anthem for Sachin's ton of tons. Considering Sehwag not playing this game due to injury, the crowd was excited to see another mesmerizing spell by Sachin, an another round of great entertainment as they saw in Nagpur in the last match against SA. In absence of Sehwag, Darren Sammy and team had some different plans for playing against India and especially against Sachin. Here comes relatively less experienced Ravi Rampaul with a wonderful delivery of his first over and the last encounter to which Sachin did not have a good response but still we all had hopes as usual when umpire refused Ravi's apeal. I sighed in relief. But what I see in next one minute was more shocking, which will take the wind out of your sails. Sachin turned back and started walking towards pavilion one match away from his 100th 100s. For a while I could not understand what h
